IBF heavyweight world champion Daniel Dubois has cast doubt on Anthony Joshua’s readiness for their anticipated rematch, stating, “Where is AJ? I can’t find him.” Despite extensive talks, the fight scheduled for 22 February has been scrapped, with Dubois now set to face top contender Joseph Parker in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Dubois, 27, defeated Joshua in September, solidifying his claim as one of boxing’s elite. However, Joshua’s camp has cited an injury as the reason for withdrawing from the rematch.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Dubois expressed confidence ahead of the Parker bout, saying, “Parker’s experienced and on a good run, but I’ll do a job on him. I just have to be faster and better in every department.”
Dubois is in Riyadh to witness the WBC, WBO, and WBA (Super) heavyweight title clash between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury. The 27-year-old champion has his sights set on fighting the winner, with a preference for Usyk, whom he faced in a controversial loss in 2023.
Reflecting on that bout, Dubois said, “I’d love to fight Usyk again. Money talks in boxing, and it would be huge to right that wrong and unify the belts.”
Usyk has hinted at a potential return to cruiserweight if victorious against Fury, but Dubois doubts that move, stating, “I’m the world champion, and he’s got the other belts. It’s undisputed or nothing.”
Dubois, refusing to predict a winner between Usyk and Fury, noted, “They’re both top guys. Fury showed his chin last time. Either man could win.”
As Dubois prepares to defend his title against Parker on a global stage, his ambitions for unification and redemption remain unwavering, setting the stage for a thrilling 2024 in heavyweight boxing.
