Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team wrapped up their campaign at the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Lyon, France, with an 81–73 loss to Germany.
The game started as a tight contest, with Nigeria trailing 17–14 after the first quarter and 18–17 in the second, heading into halftime within touching distance.
After the break, the team showed resilience, narrowly winning the third quarter 21–19 to stay in contention. However, the final quarter proved decisive as Germany stepped up their performance at both ends, outscoring Nigeria 27–21 to seal the victory.

Despite the loss, Nigeria displayed moments of quality throughout the tournament. They recorded an impressive 101–84 win over the Philippines but also faced challenges, including a 77–60 defeat to South Korea and a hard-fought loss to France, where a late comeback attempt fell short.
The match also marked an emotional moment for Sarah Ogoke, who made her final appearance for the national team. She played limited minutes against Germany, scoring three points in her farewell game.
