Novak Djokovic secured the 101st title of his illustrious career on Saturday after rallying from a set down to defeat Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the final of the ATP tournament in Athens.
The victory places the 38-year-old Serb among an elite group of players with over 100 titles, joining Roger Federer, who has 103, and record-holder Jimmy Connors with 109.
Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, also became the oldest ATP champion since Australia’s Ken Rosewall, who lifted a title in Hong Kong at age 43 back in 1977.
The Athens triumph marks Djokovic’s second title of 2025, following his earlier success on the Geneva clay in May.
For Musetti, the loss was particularly costly as he needed to win to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin. His defeat handed the last qualifying spot to Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Although Djokovic had already secured his place in the year-end tournament, he kept fans in suspense about his participation until confirming his appearance earlier this week.
