Nottingham Forest secured a much-needed 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town at the City Ground, with Chris Wood’s penalty in the 49th minute sealing the three points. The goal, Wood’s ninth of the Premier League season, equalled Bryan Roy’s club record of 24 Premier League goals.
Ipswich started the game confidently but were unable to break down Forest’s defence. Omari Hutchinson came closest for the visitors in the first half, forcing a fine save from Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels. Despite the positive start, Ipswich failed to capitalize on their early momentum.
In the second half, a clumsy challenge by Sam Szmodics on Jota Silva in the box led to a penalty, which Wood confidently dispatched to put Forest ahead. The striker, who had been quiet in the first half, was a constant threat after his goal, holding up the ball effectively to relieve pressure and help Forest manage the game.
Ipswich had their chances late in the game, with substitute Jack Clarke forcing a tame shot that was comfortably saved by Sels. Despite their improved second-half performance, Kieran McKenna’s side couldn’t find an equalizer, and Forest held on for the win.
The result sees Forest rise to sixth in the Premier League table, while Ipswich remains in 19th. After a two-game losing streak, the win is a significant boost for Forest as they look to build on their momentum.
Ipswich will now look to regroup, with three crucial upcoming games against fellow relegation battlers Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, and Wolves.
