In a decisive move to reinvigorate their 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin has named Coach Kennedy Boboye as its new Technical Manager.
The appointment was confirmed on Monday in an official statement released by the club’s Director of Media and Communications, Kehinde Osagiede, who noted that Boboye assumes his new role with immediate effect following a mutual agreement between both parties.
This leadership change comes amid a challenging start to the season for the historic Benin-based club. After a string of poor results, just one win, three draws, and four losses in eight matches, leaving them with only six points, the club suspended Head Coach Greg Ikhenoba on October 6.
In the interim, Coach Baldwin Bazuaye (MON), who also serves as Executive Director at the Edo Sports Commission, took over the reins and helped stabilise the team during a turbulent period. His efforts have since been praised by the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Amadin Enabulele.
Boboye, a well-respected figure in Nigerian football, brings a wealth of experience and a track record of success. The Delta-born tactician notably led Plateau United to the NPFL title in 2017 and repeated the feat with Akwa United in 2021. His proven ability to transform underperforming teams and deliver results made him the club’s top choice after a thorough selection process.
“This appointment follows a careful evaluation process. Coach Boboye’s pedigree and winning mentality align with our vision and ambition for the club,” said Osagiede.
The 2-year deal represents a medium-term commitment aimed at giving Boboye the platform to instill his footballing philosophy and chart a new course for the team. He is expected to be officially unveiled on Tuesday in Benin City.
For Bendel Insurance FC, a club steeped in history and supported by a passionate fan base, Boboye’s arrival marks more than a routine managerial change. It is a bold statement of intent as the club looks to climb the league table and reassert itself among Nigeria’s football elite.
With expectations running high, the spotlight now turns to Boboye to deliver the turnaround that could define the club’s season and future trajectory in the NPFL.
