Barcelona missed the chance to extend their lead atop La Liga after losing 1-0 to Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena. Sheraldo Becker scored the only goal of the game in the 33rd minute, handing Barcelona their second league defeat of the season. Barcelona failed to score in a La Liga match for the first time this season.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick was dealt a blow before the match when Lamine Yamal was ruled out due to injury. Yamal, a rising star for Barcelona, had also missed international duty with Spain due to the injury. Barcelona remain six points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the table, although Real Madrid have a game in hand.
In Italy, Napoli maintained their lead in Serie A after a 1-1 draw with Inter Milan. Scott McTominay opened the scoring for Napoli, before Hakan Çalhanoğlu equalised for Inter with a spectacular 30-yard strike. Çalhanoğlu then missed a penalty in the 74th minute, striking the post. The draw keeps Napoli top of the table, one point ahead of fourth-place Inter.
Atalanta moved up to second place in Serie A with a 2-1 win over Udinese, their sixth straight victory. Mario Pašalić scored for Atalanta, with an own goal from Isaak Touré securing the three points.
Fiorentina joined Atalanta on 25 points after a Moise Kean hat-trick led them to a 3-1 win over Hellas Verona.
Roma lost 3-2 to Bologna, a result which led to the sacking of manager Ivan Jurić after less than two months in charge. Jurić was appointed on September 18th but only won two of his nine matches in charge.
In Germany, Eintracht Frankfurt remained third in the Bundesliga thanks to a 3-2 win against Stuttgart. Omar Marmoush scored one goal and set up another for Frankfurt. Stuttgart missed a penalty when Ermedin Demirović’s effort was saved.
