Nigeria revived their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a narrow but crucial 1–0 win over Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The breakthrough came six minutes into the second half when Tolu Arokodare pounced on a defensive mix-up inside the box and calmly slotted past the Rwandan goalkeeper to hand the Super Eagles all three points.
The opening half had been a cagey affair, with both sides showing more caution than creativity. Nigeria’s backline, anchored by Calvin Bassey, stayed composed even as Rwanda pushed forward with tactical adjustments after the restart.
Super Eagle get 10 points
The Super Eagles were dealt an early setback when talisman Victor Osimhen hobbled off injured before the break, making way for Cyril Dessers. Despite the loss of their star striker, José Peseiro’s men kept their intensity and held firm until the final whistle.
With the result, Nigeria climbs to 10 points from seven matches in Group C, edging ahead of Rwanda, who remain on eight. The qualification race, however, remains wide open.
