The Anthony Joshua–Jake Paul bout has reignited debate across the global sporting community, following British heavyweight star Anthony Joshua’s sixth-round stoppage of YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul on Saturday morning (Nigeria time).
New daily Prime reported that Joshua, an Olympic gold medalist and former unified heavyweight champion, was widely expected to overpower Paul, and he delivered on those expectations with a decisive knockout. Yet while the ending was clear, opinions on the fight itself were sharply divided.

Several fans and commentators blasted the matchup as a farce. Social media personality Zenith described Paul as “an absolute embarrassment to the sport,” accusing him of buying opportunities against legitimate champions only to fall short.
Robby The Brain echoed the sentiment, calling Joshua’s knockout “karma” for what he claimed were years of disrespect toward “real boxers.”
Still, not all reactions were dismissive. Former world title challenger Chris Eubank Jr. struck a more balanced tone, arguing that regardless of the outcome, Paul deserved credit for stepping into the ring with one of boxing’s most accomplished heavyweights and seeing the fight through without quitting. “He’s done what most would never,” Eubank Jr. wrote.
NBA legend Kevin Garnett compared the bout’s intensity to classic heavyweight wars, while Shaquille O’Neal hinted that the outcome felt inevitable, posting, “Yeah Anthony Joshua #what script.”
Actor O’Shea Jackson Jr. simply reacted with shock, while others online celebrated the knockout as a restoration of “boxing sanity.”
Critics, however, questioned Joshua’s motivation for accepting the fight as Garrick, a prominent online voice, argued that aside from the massive payday reportedly nearing $100 million the bout offered little in professional value for a fighter of Joshua’s stature.
Damon Martin was quick to shut down what he saw as a misleading takeaway, tweeting, “Don’t want to hear ‘but Jake Paul went six rounds with Anthony Joshua’… He circled away for six rounds, went for takedowns… and eventually got knocked out.”
Chisanga Malata echoed the sentiment, calling the “went six rounds” narrative nonsense. He wrote, “The narrative that Jake Paul ‘went six rounds’ with Anthony Joshua is nonsense. He ran for six rounds… He’s due respect for sharing the ring with AJ, but that performance isn’t praiseworthy.”
Netflix Sports highlighted what came next. Joshua, calm and composed after the finish, showed respect to Paul before immediately turning his attention to bigger challenges: “ANTHONY JOSHUA SHOWS HIS RESPECT TO JAKE PAUL AND IMMEDIATELY CALLS OUT TYSON FURY.”
Not everyone dismissed Paul’s effort entirely. The MMA Guru offered a different perspective, posting, “If you’re in a boxing match… and you’re landing shit like this [clip of Paul surviving] I fully respect you, tough cunt… ballsy cunt Jake Paul is.”
