Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has been named the Premier League’s Manager of the Month for October, marking the first time the Portuguese tactician has received the honour since his appointment at Old Trafford nearly a year ago.
Amorim, who took charge of United in November 2024, guided his team to a perfect run of three league victories in October, easing mounting pressure after a shaky start to the season. The month began with a much-needed home win against Sunderland before United stunned Liverpool with a memorable 2-1 triumph at Anfield – their first victory on Merseyside since January 2016. The Red Devils rounded off the month in style, defeating Brighton 4-2 in a thrilling encounter that showcased Amorim’s attacking philosophy beginning to take hold.
Speaking after receiving the award, Amorim was quick to shift the praise to his players and coaching staff.
“The credit is not mine, the credit is for my players,” he said. “They did really well, and our goal is to win the next one [award], because it means we win football matches and that is our goal.”
The 39-year-old former Sporting CP boss has faced a challenging first year in English football. After being appointed to replace Erik ten Hag in late 2024, Amorim inherited a side struggling for consistency and confidence. United’s early-season form this term had intensified scrutiny, with sections of the fanbase calling for improvement. However, October’s turnaround has rekindled optimism at Old Trafford, not only because of the results but also due to the renewed sense of unity within the squad.
The club’s defensive stability has improved, while Amorim’s faith in younger players has also begun to pay dividends. The tactical switch to a more flexible 3-4-3 formation allowed United to press higher and transition more effectively, a system that proved particularly effective in their statement win over Liverpool.
The award also represents a significant milestone for United as a club. It is the first time a Manchester United manager has received the Premier League’s Manager of the Month accolade since Erik ten Hag in November 2023 – a gap that underlines how turbulent the intervening months have been at Old Trafford. For Amorim, the recognition is a sign that his methods are beginning to bear fruit after a period of adjustment.
While October brought cheer, Amorim remains focused on the challenges ahead. United’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest on 1 November reminded the manager that consistency remains key if his side are to climb further up the table. The Red Devils currently sit eighth in the Premier League, but with performances improving and confidence building, there is growing belief they can push toward the top four in the coming months.
Off the pitch, Amorim’s calm demeanour and clear tactical communication have earned respect from both his squad and the wider football community. His approach to man-management has been praised, particularly for revitalising players who had struggled for form under previous regimes.
Adding to United’s positive October, forward Bryan Mbeumo was named the Premier League’s Player of the Month after scoring three goals and providing an assist across the team’s three victories. The Cameroonian international’s dynamism and finishing have made him a key figure in Amorim’s system, offering United a new attacking dimension.
As Manchester United prepare to face Tottenham on Saturday, Amorim and his staff will hope the award serves as motivation rather than a distraction. With the mood improving and results finally aligning with effort, the month of October could mark a turning point in United’s season — and perhaps in Amorim’s tenure at Old Trafford.
For now, the Portuguese manager’s first Premier League accolade stands as a testament to resilience, adaptation, and belief — qualities that Manchester United fans will hope define the months to come.
