The Zamfara State Government has firmly denied reports suggesting that Governor Dauda Lawal is planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released in Gusau, the state capital, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Broadcast Media, Press and Public Affairs, Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, described the claims as entirely false and misleading.
Kaura emphasised that Governor Lawal remains fully committed to the PDP, the party under which he was elected during the 2023 general elections.
“The mandate given to Governor Dauda Lawal was through the PDP, and there is no reason for him to abandon the party that brought him to power,” he stated.

He urged members of the public to disregard what he described as baseless rumours, affirming that the PDP in Zamfara remains a cohesive and focused political force, united in its developmental vision for the state.
Kaura also highlighted the governor’s dedication to delivering on his electoral promises, particularly in the areas of good governance, security, and socio-economic development.
“Governor Lawal’s administration is focused on improving governance, enhancing security, and fulfilling the campaign promises made to the people of the state,” Kaura added.
This clarification comes amid growing political speculation and shifting alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several governors and lawmakers reportedly under pressure to switch party affiliations. However, the Zamfara State Government has reiterated its stance, making it clear that Governor Lawal remains steadfast in his political allegiance to the PDP.
