Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has fired back at the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging it to focus on the “true identity and age” of its own leaders instead of criticising his political decisions.
The sharp rebuke came after Lagos APC spokesman Seye Oladejo mocked Atiku for formally joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a move the ruling party described as evidence of political irrelevance.
In a statement released on Thursday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Atiku dismissed the APC’s remarks as “hollow, ill-considered” and laden with “hypocrisy, selective amnesia, and intellectual laziness.”
The former vice president insisted that his political relevance remains unquestionable and his personal records are beyond reproach. “Atiku Abubakar’s political journey is public, transparent, and fully documented.
“His age is known, his parents are known, his educational records are intact, and his public life can be traced from childhood to national prominence without the need for forensic experts, private investigators, or sworn affidavits to reconcile conflicting identities,” the statement read.
The thinly veiled reference to longstanding controversies surrounding the academic qualifications and age declaration of President Bola Tinubu has reignited political tensions between the former running mates of 2007.
Atiku’s media office accused the Lagos APC of consistently deflecting from substantive issues by resorting to personal attacks.
It urged the party to channel its energy into addressing the governance challenges facing Nigerians rather than questioning the legitimacy of opposition figures’ political choices.
