The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, cautioning against any attempt to bring former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, back into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking during a media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike described such a move as “suicidal” for the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Mohammed, who also serves as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, had earlier suggested in an interview on Channels Television that the party was considering Obi and former President Goodluck Jonathan as potential presidential candidates for 2027.
Wike, however, dismissed the idea, saying Obi’s return would “destroy” the PDP.
“Bringing Obi to where? You want to kill the party? Obi that was abusing the PDP, saying it is rotten — so the party is now good enough for him? Ambition can make people even go to Satan’s house,” Wike said.
In a separate response, the FCT Minister also addressed criticisms from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who had described the recently conducted Rivers State local government elections as unlawful.
Wike maintained that the polls were valid, stressing that no court had declared them illegal. He added that the exercise had been widely commended as free and fair.
“Listen, I don’t blame Atiku; he didn’t know that his boss signed the emergency rule in 2004. If he was obedient and working with his boss, President Olusegun Obasanjo, he would have known that the President has the power to make regulations for the governance of emergency areas. What you don’t know, don’t comment about,” Wike stated.
He further criticised Obi, questioning his moral standing on election matters.
“Obi called the exercise rascality. Who can be more of a rascal than Obi? He governed Anambra State for eight years but only conducted local government elections two months before leaving office,” Wike added.
