The South-South zonal leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, demanding a full apology for his comments against Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the zonal Publicity Secretary, Prince Etim Isong, Basiru’s call for Wike’s resignation was branded a “personal attack” detrimental to President Bola Tinubu’s administration and his 2027 re-election prospects.

Isong expressed astonishment that Basiru, who failed to deliver a governor for the APC in Osun State in 2023, would criticise Wike credited with bolstering Tinubu’s support in Rivers State.
He warned that undermining Rivers, a key Tinubu stronghold, was reckless amid existing political tensions.
Describing Basiru’s remarks as “amateurish political judgment,” Isong accused him of opposing Tinubu and being unfit for his role.

“Senator Basiru’s call for the resignation of a performing minister like Nyesom Wike portrays him as an opponent of President Bola Tinubu and an enemy of the Nigerian state,” he stated.
Isong asserted Wike’s enduring influence in Rivers politics, noting even Governor Siminalayi Fubara acknowledges him as his political architect.
He cautioned Basiru against “divide-and-rule tactics,” advising him to withdraw from Rivers affairs or face being declared persona non grata.
