Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors for consistently excluding him from major decision-making, cautioning that their actions risk destroying the party.
Speaking at a media parley in Abuja on Friday, Wike lamented his deliberate exclusion from key consultations despite his significant, long-standing role within the opposition party.
“Have I not said it before now that the booby trap you are setting will consume you?” Wike queried, adding a grave warning: “The way these present governors are doing, they will bury this party.”

The former Rivers State governor challenged the justification for being sidelined simply because he no longer holds a governorship position.
“I am the FCT Minister. Are you telling me that because I am not a governor, you will hold a PDP stakeholders’ meeting and exclude me, and then expect the party to survive?”
He argued that even without his ministerial title, his history and contributions to the PDP warrant consultation on party decisions.
“Assuming I am not a minister, by the role I have played in the PDP till now, is it right to say I cannot be consulted in taking decisions of the party? Certainly not,” he asserted.
Wike dismissed the notion that the PDP’s internal problems could be blamed on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that the party’s troubles are self-inflicted.
“All these talks about APC are rubbish. Is it APC that makes you take wrong decisions? You mean two or three people, because they are governors and receive large allocations, will go and decide, and you tell me to follow? Follow who?” he said.
Addressing the PDP’s forthcoming national convention, Wike accused the leadership of failing to properly complete essential prerequisites.
He claimed the necessary congresses and other key processes have not been concluded, which is the actual reason the convention is being delayed.
“If they do the right thing, will anybody stall the convention? They have not done the congresses and other things that should be in place,” he stated.

Wike’s comments highlight the deep internal crises plaguing the PDP, which has recently seen high-profile defections, including the Governors of Enugu State, Peter Mbah; Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori; and Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno.
The party is also currently navigating multiple legal battles related to its planned convention.
