The Nyesom Wike-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected a new set of national officers, with Abdulrahman Mohammed emerging as National Chairman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary.
The elections took place during the party’s national convention held in Abuja on Sunday, where approximately 2,500 delegates participated in endorsing the new leadership and other members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
The motion to adopt the 19-member NWC and other national officers was moved by the House Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, and seconded by Usman Adamu, receiving overwhelming support from delegates at the convention.
Among those affirmed into key positions are Aaron Chukwuemeka as Deputy National Chairman (South) and Yusufu Nya Akirikwen (SAN) as Deputy National Chairman (North). Others include Kolawale Olabisi as Deputy National Secretary, Odeyemei Mackson Oladiran as National Treasurer, and Lado Dan Marke as Deputy National Treasurer.
Additional members of the newly constituted leadership include Eyim Donatus Henry, Dr Grema Kyari, Umar Mohammed Bature, Efere Augustine, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, Egwu Goodluck Chidiebere, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), Barrister Aloysius Chinemelu U. Uba, Osuoha Okechukwu Donatus, Dr Adaba Yatu, Ibrahim Bala Aboki, and Momoh Dejih Eugene Bashir.
The convention also saw the emergence of Professor Ogunshe Adedayo as National Women Leader, alongside Hauwa Ahmed Shinge as Deputy National Women Leader, signalling efforts to maintain gender representation within the party’s leadership structure.
The development marks a significant step for the Wike-aligned faction as it consolidates control over party structures amid ongoing internal disputes within the PDP. The convention, which recorded a high turnout of accredited delegates, underscores the faction’s determination to assert its legitimacy and organisational strength.
Political observers note that the emergence of the new leadership could further shape the dynamics within the party as it prepares for the 2027 general elections. However, the broader crisis within the PDP remains unresolved, with other factions continuing to challenge the authority and outcomes of the convention.
Despite the lingering divisions, the newly elected officials are expected to steer the party through a period of reconciliation, restructuring and strategic positioning, as efforts continue to rebuild unity and restore the PDP’s influence in Nigeria’s political landscape.
