Former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has declared his support for the emerging opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating that the move is aimed at rescuing Nigeria’s democracy from what he described as its rapid decline under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Lamido made the declaration while addressing supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during an empowerment programme held at the party’s headquarters in Dutse.
In a bold political shift, the PDP stalwart revealed that he has aligned himself with the ADC-led coalition spearheaded by former Senate President, Senator David Mark.
According to Lamido, the alliance seeks to restore democratic values, protect the opposition space, and ensure national progress.
“Our coming together under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Senator David Mark is for the unity and progress of the country, not for selfish interest,” Lamido said.

He accused the APC-led government of overseeing the erosion of democratic norms, citing growing incidents of power abuse, suppression of opposition voices, and disregard for constitutional principles.
“Any patriotic Nigerian who has Nigeria at heart must come together to give his contribution to unseat the present administration in order to save the country and Nigerians from the difficult situation,” he added.
Lamido stressed that the current political moment requires leadership driven by national interest, not partisanship.
“Our duty now is to advise and guide for the betterment of the country and the brighter future of Nigeria,” he said.
During the event, he also commended PDP federal lawmakers from Jigawa for their dedication and continued advocacy for the party’s founding principles.
In his remarks, Senator Mustapha Khabeeb, who represents Jigawa South-West Senatorial District, revealed that more than 3,000 constituents had benefited from the empowerment programme, which includes skills development, financial support, and tools for self-reliance.
The alliance under the ADC is gaining momentum amid increasing discussions about the shape of Nigeria’s opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
