The Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alkasim Abdulkadir, has officially praised Yusuf Tuggar’s tenure following his resignation.

Tuggar’s resignation, which was submitted to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in Abuja, came ahead of the March 31 deadline set by President Bola Tinubu for political office holders.
In his statement, Abdulkadir emphasised that Tuggar “demonstrated strong leadership” and a clear commitment to Tinubu’s “4D” foreign policy strategy during his time in office.

He noted that Tuggar’s tenure was defined by effective governance and tangible results in advancing Nigeria’s interests.
Abdulkadir mentioned several key achievements, noting that Tuggar championed a “people-centered” approach to diplomacy.
He maintained, “During his time in office, the Minister demonstrated strong leadership and commitment to advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives. His tenure was marked by several notable achievements, advancing people-centred diplomacy . . .”

This approach, as noted by Abdulkadir, included facilitating humanitarian evacuations for citizens, supporting students through scholarships, and creating a structured database to improve engagement with Nigerians living in the diaspora.

He credited Tuggar with successfully driving economic diplomacy.
He stated that Tuggar worked hard to position Nigeria as a prime destination for foreign investment, especially within the energy sector.
Abdulkadir also pointed to Tuggar’s role in strengthening bilateral and multilateral ties, particularly through the establishment of the Regional Partnership for Democracy (RPD) and strategic engagements with partners in the global south.
Abdulkadir confirmed that Tuggar’s resignation letter was officially received by Dr. Abubakar Kana, the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, on behalf of the government.
In that letter, Tuggar expressed gratitude to Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, while also thanking the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the diplomatic community for their cooperation throughout his tenure.
