Dr Wale Ahmed, the lawmaker representing Agege Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has declared that President Bola Tinubu is guaranteed a second term, urging opposition figures to abandon plans of challenging him in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ briefing held at the Agege Local Government Secretariat, Ahmed said it was only fair for Tinubu—who hails from the South—to complete two terms, just as former President Muhammadu Buhari from the North did.
“All his opponents should rest and allow him to have a second term. All opposition should simply rally round and support Tinubu,” Ahmed said.
“Late President Muhammadu Buhari, from the North, served two terms, so Tinubu should also have his second term. By God’s grace, his second term is assured. I will mobilise my constituents to ensure Tinubu is returned for another term.”
His comments come amid strong criticisms of the Tinubu administration from leading opposition figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and former Senate President David Mark, who are already signalling interest in 2027 through their parties—PDP, Labour Party, ADC, and NNPP.
Ahmed praised Tinubu’s economic reforms and foreign policy engagements, describing them as bold steps that have earned Nigeria international respect and laid the groundwork for long-term growth.
He defended the controversial fuel subsidy removal, calling it a courageous decision with lasting benefits. He also pointed to signs of recovery including:
-
Foreign reserves exceeding $40 billion
-
Improved foreign direct investment (FDI)
-
Reduced inflation
-
Disbursement of ₦90 billion in student loans
On infrastructure, Ahmed cited ongoing national projects such as the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto–Badagry superhighway, and Abuja–Kano dual carriageway rehabilitation as evidence of the administration’s commitment to national development.
“The Sokoto–Badagry expressway had been on paper for 40 years until this administration took up the project. It will open up villages and benefit people across different states,” he said.
Highlighting his own performance, the lawmaker outlined constituency projects including youth and women empowerment schemes, borehole installations, classroom construction, streetlight installations, medical outreaches, palliative distribution, and scholarship awards.
The event was attended by local government chairmen Abdulganiyu Obasa (Agege) and Abiodun Idowu (Orile Agege), traditional rulers, market leaders, and community stakeholders, who applauded Ahmed for what they described as effective representation and impactful governance.
