The Nigerian Presidency has emphasised that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains steadfastly dedicated to its reform agenda and fostering economic growth, despite increasing political discourse and media attention on the 2027 general elections.
Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, in a statement on Tuesday, noted that the government will not be diverted by political distractions.
While acknowledging Nigerians’ constitutional rights to freedom of association and speech, Mr Idris underlined that the Mr Tinubu administration’s primary focus continues to be delivering the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda, a mandate for transformative change entrusted to it by the populace.

According to him, this vision has already begun to yield tangible benefits within two years.
He highlighted significant progress, including a dramatic reduction in crude oil theft, a resurgence in investor confidence within the oil and gas sector, a noticeable easing of inflation, and the stabilization of the Naira.
Furthermore, Mr Idris noted that security challenges are being directly confronted, and millions of Nigerians—ranging from households and students to artisans and small business owners—are benefiting from government initiatives such as student loan programmes.
He also pointed at expanded access to consumer credit, and the conversion of vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), alongside improvements in government services and infrastructure.
Mr Idris pointed to recent legislative milestones, including the President’s signing of four pivotal tax reform bills into law two weeks prior.
These reforms, he said poised for implementation from 2026, represent one of Nigeria’s most ambitious fiscal overhauls in its history and are expected to significantly enhance prosperity for both households and businesses nationwide.
He said just before these tax reforms, Mr Tinubu also commissioned what was described as the largest mechanization drive ever undertaken in Nigeria – the launch of the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme.
This initiative, the Minister said, was one of several high-impact agricultural programs aimed at guaranteeing national food security.
Mr Idris remarked that it is unsurprising that ‘emerging coalitions and opposition political groupings do not want a sustained focus on the progress Nigeria is making.’

He stated, however, that the administration ‘refuses to be drawn into distractions engineered by those who would prefer stagnation over reform.’
The Minister affirmed that the Mr Tinubu administration remains undeterred, focused, and committed to building a more prosperous Nigeria for all.
