Nigerian presidential spokesperson Daniel Bwala has confirmed an upcoming meeting between President Bola Tinubu and U.S. President Donald Trump.
In a statement posted on his X page on Sunday, Bwala said the meeting is scheduled to take place soon at either the Nigerian State House or the White House.
He said the primary focus of the high-level talks is expected to be the escalating friction that arose after Trump placed Nigeria on a U.S. State Department watch list, citing alleged violations of religious freedom.
Bwala, who serves as Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, emphasised that both leaders are aligned in their commitment to combating terrorism.
He pointed out that Trump had previously supported Nigeria’s counter-insurgency efforts by authorising the sale of essential arms.
Bwala noted that Tinubu has adequately utilised” those resources, leading to “massive results.”
According to the presidential aide, any disagreements over whether terrorist groups in Nigeria specifically target Christians or indiscriminately attack people of all faiths will be addressed and resolved when the two presidents meet face-to-face.
“Both President Bola Tinubu and President Donald Trump have shared interests in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity. President Trump has assisted Nigeria a lot by authorising the sale of arms to Nigeria, and President Tinubu has adequately utilised the opportunity in the fight against terrorism, for which we have massive results to show for it.
“As for the differences as to whether terrorists in Nigeria target only Christians or in fact all faiths and no faiths, the differences, if they exist, would be discussed and resolved by the two leaders when they meet in the coming days, either in the State House or White House”, the statement read.

The New Daily Prime earlier reported that Nigeria’s government has rejected the U.S. classification, calling it a misrepresentation of the country’s actual religious landscape.
Trump also asked the Pentagon to evaluate potential military action against armed groups operating within Nigeria.
