Leke Abejide, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise and ADC lawmaker representing Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency in Kogi State, has declared that President Bola Tinubu will win the 2027 presidential election even if former President Goodluck Jonathan decides to contest.
Speaking on the Mic On podcast with Seun Okinbaloye on Saturday, Abejide predicted that Tinubu would secure more than 32 states in the forthcoming election, potentially losing only in Anambra and Ebonyi States.
“My prayer is that they should run like that (on different political platforms) and Asiwaju will win 32 states,” Abejide said. “He may lose maybe Anambra, Abia; he will win Ebonyi; he may win more than 32 states.”
The ADC lawmaker expressed optimism about the current security situation in the north, recounting his recent travels from Kano to Abuja via Kaduna by road and train, noting the good infrastructure and general public happiness.
Abejide also addressed the ongoing leadership struggle within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), warning that coalition leaders such as Atiku Abubakar, Rauf Aregbesola, David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, and Peter Obi would be expelled from the party.
He dismissed claims that the Atiku-backed coalition controls the ADC, stressing the party’s constitution requires members to have been in the party for at least two years before occupying national office.
“Ogah and co are being sponsored by the coalition people, the coalition people are those that came from Labour, PDP, and a fraction from APC,” Abejide said, referring to the internal crisis in the ADC, especially in Kogi State. He accused political figures like Dino Melaye and former senator Tunde Ogbeha of being behind the disputes.
The lawmaker promised decisive action, stating: “Give me some few days if I’m the National leader of ADC or not, you will know. We will send them (Atiku, David Mark, Aregbesola, Amaechi, Peter Obi) back to where they came from.”
On the 2027 presidential race, Abejide ruled out former Governor of Rivers State Chibuike Amaechi as a contender, stating he lacks political relevance and would not even carry his home state in the election.
“Amaechi is not a factor in the 2027 election; he can’t win in Rivers State,” Abejide said. “He’s not a politician now; he was just a politician before. We’re talking about people who can pull a crowd. You talk about Atiku; I agree. You can talk about Obi; I agree. Amaechi is out of the calculation.”
The political landscape remains fluid as parties and coalitions jockey for influence ahead of the next general election.
