In tribute, Tinubu lauded his predecessor as “to the very core, a patriot, a soldier, a statesman,” whose life was defined by unwavering dedication to Nigeria.
Buhari’s distinguished career included serving as a military head of state from January 1984 to August 1985, and later as a democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023.
Tinubu highlighted Buhari’s “quiet strength, profound integrity, and an unshakable belief in Nigeria’s potential” during turbulent times.
He noted Buhari’s commitment to public service discipline, anti-corruption efforts, and prioritising national interest.
Tinubu extended his deepest condolences to the late former President’s wife, Aisha, with whom he has been in continuous contact, as well as to his children, the wider Buhari family, and all who knew him.
Condolences were also offered to the government and people of Katsina State, particularly the residents and traditional leaders of Daura Emirate.
Additionally, an emergency Federal Executive Council (FEC) session has been summoned for Tuesday, dedicated to honouring Buhari’s memory.
