President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo on his re-election as Governor of Anambra State, describing the result as “an affirmation of visionary leadership” and pledging closer collaboration between the Federal Government and the Anambra administration.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Soludo, candidate of the All Grand Progressives Alliance (APGA), winner of the off-cycle governorship poll held on Saturday, after he secured victory across all 21 Local Government Areas of the state. The triumph cements Soludo’s place in Anambra’s political history as the third governor to win a second term, following Peter Obi and Willie Obiano.
In a statement personally signed and released on Sunday, President Tinubu congratulated the people of Anambra for what he called a “peaceful and credible election,” commending the security agencies and INEC for their conduct. He urged the governor to be “magnanimous in victory” and to reach out to political rivals in the interest of unity and progress.
“Professor Soludo’s re-election is a testament to his visionary leadership and the significant progress the state has made under his guidance, Governor Soludo, the Solution, has demonstrated that knowledge is power and that academic principles can be applied in governance, underpinning accountability, transparency, and prudent management of people and resources,” Tinubu said.
Reflecting on his May visit to Anambra, during which he inaugurated several projects executed by the Soludo administration, the President described the experience as “remarkable and indelible,” praising the governor’s commitment to development and innovation.
Tinubu also commended Soludo for “bringing discipline, grace, brilliance, and a fresh perspective to governance,” noting that under his leadership, “Anambra is living up to its motto as the Light of the Nation.”
Pledging full federal support, Tinubu assured, “I look forward to continued collaboration between Anambra and the Federal Government. The victory of the opposition APGA again demonstrates the vitality of our political system, proving that progress and hard work cannot be denied.”
The President further lauded the new INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, for what he described as a credible and well-organised election. He urged the electoral body to “maintain the standards and continue to improve,” emphasising the need to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
Soludo’s sweeping victory, reportedly with over 420,000 votes against his nearest rival from the All Progressives Congress (APC), reaffirms APGA’s two-decade dominance in Anambra politics. Analysts have described the outcome as both a test and a confirmation of APGA’s enduring grassroots support in the South-East.
With his new mandate secured, Soludo’s administration, which runs until March 2026, is expected to consolidate on his first-term achievements in infrastructure, education, and economic reform.
Tinubu’s message concluded with a call for unity and cooperation: “Governor Soludo’s victory is not only for Anambra but for Nigeria’s democracy. Together, we can build a nation where good governance and visionary leadership are truly rewarded.”
