The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youths Council in Taraba State has firmly rejected reports of Governor Agbu Kefas’ alleged defection to the ruling party, describing the move as unacceptable and inconsistent with the party’s core values and progressive ideology.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Jalingo, the council revealed that youth leaders from across the state had convened and unanimously passed a vote of no confidence on the governor. They argued that Kefas’ leadership style and political ideology were incompatible with the APC’s principles of accountability, transparency, and progressivism.
The statement, signed by the State Coordinator of the council, Bilyamin Musa, read: “We, the youths of APC in Taraba State, unanimously reject the defection of Governor Agbu Kefas into our great party. He is not a progressive leader, and APC is not a party for his calibre. Our stand is clear — we are not in support of his coming.”
Musa further accused the governor of lacking both vision and administrative capacity, claiming that his two years in office had failed to deliver meaningful development to the people of Taraba State. According to him, the state had continued to grapple with poor infrastructure, unemployment, and weak governance despite the huge resources available to the government.
The council called on the national leadership of the APC to heed the concerns of Taraba youths and protect the party from individuals whose political records, they said, do not reflect the values of progress and service to the people. “We urge our leaders at the national level to ensure that the APC remains a platform for visionary, disciplined, and development-oriented leaders,” the statement added.
Reaffirming their unwavering loyalty to the APC and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the youths pledged to continue mobilising grassroots support and strengthening the party’s structures across the state.
They also reiterated their determination to defend the integrity of the APC, insisting that the party must prioritise genuine commitment to development and the welfare of citizens over political opportunism.
