Former Governor of Sokoto State and current Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has fired back at critics and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), saying he cannot be intimidated or blackmailed into joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Tambuwal, who returned to a hero’s welcome in Sokoto following his recent interrogation by the EFCC over alleged ₦189 billion fraud, told supporters at his residence that the investigation was politically motivated.
“What they failed to realise is that I cannot be intimidated, I cannot be blackmailed, and no one can tarnish my records that God has given me,” he declared.
Tambuwal recounted his political journey — from Minority Leader in 2003, Deputy Chief Whip in 2007, Speaker of the House in 2011, two-term governor of Sokoto State, to his current role as Senator — stating that his service to the people remains unquestionable.
He dismissed the corruption allegations as baseless and politically driven, asserting that even local investigations previously launched by the Sokoto State government found no wrongdoing on his part.
2027: Tambuwal promises APC will fall
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Tambuwal said the APC government has failed Nigerians and vowed that opposition forces would unite to end what he described as “misrule and misgovernance.”
“We are determined. We are committed to democratic efforts… By the grace of God, in 2027, we will end this misrule,” he said.
He accused the ruling party of enacting anti-people policies and worsening insecurity, claiming they lack compassion and understanding of Nigerians’ daily struggles.
“Their policies are anti-people. They have no compassion, they have no human feelings,” he added.
Tambuwal urged his supporters to remain vigilant and prepare for 2027, saying the opposition will not tolerate rigging and is confident of victory.
“We will not allow any election to be rigged again. Nigerians will make their voices heard,” he said.
