Yoruba Nation advocate, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has renewed his call for the secession of the Yoruba people from Nigeria.
Sunday Igboho gained prominence for his agitation for Yoruba independence during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, a movement that led to his imprisonment.
In October 2023, he regained his freedom in Benin Republic, where he had been detained following his escape from Nigerian authorities in 2021.

In February 2024, he returned to Nigeria after nearly three years in exile.
In a viral video online on Thursday he expressed concerns over the declining sense of patriotism among Nigerians, citing corruption, insecurity, and economic hardship as major factors.
In the video, he was seen at an airport in the United Kingdom, arguing that many citizens no longer take pride in their Nigerian identity.
He emphasised that if the nation cannot function effectively as a united entity, ethnic groups such as the Yoruba, Igbo, and others should be allowed to part ways peacefully.

Sunday Igboho further highlighted the potential of Yoruba youths, noting that their global exposure and experiences position them to build a progressive and prosperous Yoruba nation modelled after advanced European societies.
He said, “Even at the airport, there is no security. People’s belongings can be stolen from their bags in Nigerian airports. These are some of the issues discouraging citizens from feeling proud of Nigeria.
“Situations like this make it painful to identify as Nigerians. This is why we are advocating for separation. If Nigeria cannot function as a united country, we should go our separate ways.
“Our Yoruba youths are capable of transforming the Yoruba nation. Many of them have travelled the world and gained valuable knowledge. When they return to Yoruba land, they can use their experiences to develop and modernize it, just like European nations.”
