The Forum of All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government Party Chairmen in the Southwest Zone has thrown its full weight behind the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The declaration was made during the forum’s quarterly zonal meeting held on Saturday at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The party leaders also pledged to launch an aggressive grassroots mobilisation campaign aimed at securing not only Tinubu’s return to office but also reclaiming Oyo and Osun States — both currently governed by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking at the event, National Chairman of the Forum and Abeokuta South APC Chairman, Mr Henry Fagbenro, praised President Tinubu’s leadership and reforms, describing him as “a symbol of good governance” whose policies had placed Nigeria on a path to economic recovery and national stability.
“The Southwest is the home base of our hardworking President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He has done fantastically well in redefining good governance since his election over two years ago,” Fagbenro stated. “The Southwest is saying that President Tinubu deserves another term till 2031, and we will do everything within our lawful ability to make this a reality.”
Highlighting the forum’s strategic plan, Fagbenro announced that APC members would engage in extensive door-to-door campaigns across all communities in the Southwest to consolidate support for Tinubu and the APC.
He also applauded Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State for his performance, urging continued commitment to development initiatives.
In his remarks, the Forum’s Southwest Coordinator, Elder Rufus Awotidoye, called Tinubu’s 2027 re-election “non-negotiable,” stressing the importance of unity within the party. “The 2027 Presidential Election is a defining moment for the APC and for our dear President,” Awotidoye said. “The Southwest carries a special responsibility to stand united and ensure that the APC leads Nigeria forward.”
Also speaking at the event, the National Secretary of the Forum and APC Delta State LG Chairmen’s leader, Mr Norbert Sochukudinma, said the Southwest’s performance would have a ripple effect on other zones. He called on members to remain steadfast and mobilise intensively.
The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Daisi Elemide, urged for party supremacy and institutional discipline, noting that strong internal structures would deepen democracy and good governance. He reiterated his support for President Tinubu’s second term, citing his commitment to national progress.
Ambassador Sarafa Ishola, Nigeria’s former High Commissioner to the UK, also stressed the need for unity and inclusion within the party to secure victory in the 2027 general elections.
The guest speaker, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Dr Pius Akutah (represented by Atiso Mofiren), urged the APC leaders to continue promoting Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” at the grassroots level. He said the agenda focuses on economic prosperity, food security, infrastructure, improved education, and welfare for vulnerable citizens.
In May 2025, the APC formally endorsed President Tinubu as its sole candidate for the 2027 election — a move that was warmly received by party stakeholders across the country. With four Southwest states already under APC control (Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti), the forum is determined to reclaim Oyo and Osun through intensified mobilisation.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment from party leaders to unify the base, consolidate electoral strength, and ensure a landslide victory for Tinubu and the APC across all levels in 2027.
