Former lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has commented on the deepening crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), highlighting the dwindling number of governors under the party and the potential strains it may cause.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Sani suggested that if the PDP is eventually left with only two governors—Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed—they may need to constantly check in with each other to reaffirm their loyalty.
“Now that the PDP has only two Governors remaining, the two will have to be calling each other every one hour to be sure… with words like ‘I hope we are still together’ or ‘I hope you still de.’”
Sani’s remark comes amid rising tensions following a Court of Appeal ruling that upheld previous decisions restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising the outcome of the PDP’s disputed national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in November 2025.
The appellate court determined that the convention breached statutory requirements and violated the party’s constitution, exacerbating internal divisions and prompting concern over the party’s future cohesion.
