Amid mounting internal tensions, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has announced the immediate suspension of its National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, alongside two other senior officials, over allegations of gross financial misconduct.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the party’s spokesperson, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the NWC disclosed that Nze Nnadi Clarkson, the party’s National Auditor, and Uchechukwu Chukwuma, National Youth Leader, were also suspended.
“In exercise of its exclusive powers as guaranteed in Article 19.1, 19.3(i), and 19.5 of the Party Constitution (2022 as amended), the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has approved the immediate suspension of the National Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, along with two members of the NWC… over grave allegations of gross financial misconduct, embezzlement, misappropriation, and diversion of party funds,” the statement read.

The NWC stated that its decision was based on overwhelming evidence presented during a recent committee meeting.
The suspended officials were allegedly linked to unauthorised financial transactions, schemes of personal enrichment, and movement of funds from party accounts without the required NWC approvals.
This latest development follows protests at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, during which demonstrators reportedly pulled down the entrance gate signalling the deepening crisis within the party.
