The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has sworn in Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa as the substantive Chairman of Agege Local Government.
Obasa is the son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.
The swearing-in ceremony, held yesterday at the Lagos House in Ikeja, follows the resignation of the former Chairman, Tunde Azeez, who stepped down due to persistent health challenges.

Obasa previously served in an acting capacity before his formal confirmation and inauguration.
During the event, Sanwo-Olu emphasised that public office in Lagos is a responsibility rooted in merit and discipline rather than a reward or a platform for privilege.
“Leadership in Lagos State is defined by service, discipline, and results. The offices you now occupy are not rewards; they are responsibilities. The people of Lagos expect diligence, integrity, and impact—and they deserve nothing less,” the governor stated.
He further noted that the simultaneous inauguration of a political leader and a technocrat reflects the state’s commitment to combining policy continuity with effective grassroots governance.
In addition to the local government appointment, Sanwo-Olu swore in Toyin Anjous-Ademuyiwa as the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Office of Transformation, Creativity, and Innovation (OTCI).
The governor praised Anjous-Ademuyiwa for her professional journey and her previous leadership at the Office of Transformation, noting that her elevation to the highest administrative cadre was a recognition of her competence and dedication to institutional reform.
In his remarks following the oath of office, Obasa assured the residents of Agege of an inclusive administration.
He revealed that reconciliation efforts have been underway within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and throughout the local government area since the party’s primary elections to ensure a united front for development.
