The Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly disowned a group claiming affiliation with the party that recently held a rally calling on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released on Monday by the state Publicity Secretary, Hon. Felix Choji, the party labelled the group, led by Hon. Christopher Danjem, as “strange and faceless” and unrecognised by its leadership or records.
The group, styling itself as a coalition of PDP support groups, had staged a press conference and rally at Secretariat Junction in Jos on 1 December, urging the governor to switch parties for the state’s benefit.
Choji accused the group of following a script orchestrated by APC sponsors aimed at distracting and destabilising the PDP while undermining Governor Mutfwang’s administration.
“The PDP categorically denies and distances itself from this self-serving group,” the statement read, emphasising that it does not appear in the party’s database of registered support platforms.
Choji stressed that the group’s actions and statements do not reflect the official position or interests of the PDP, urging the public to disregard their claims and seek verified information directly from the party.
He reaffirmed the PDP‘s commitment to its core ideology of democracy, national cohesion, social justice, and good governance, pledging continued transparent communication.
This development comes amid persistent rumours of potential defection, which Mutfwang has previously denied, insisting his political future rests with God and the people of Plateau.
