The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for a national rebirth and urged Nigerians to resist any moves toward totalitarianism in a press statement issued to mark this year’s Eid-el Maulud, the celebration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (SAW).
The party emphasised the need for unity and divine guidance in addressing the country’s challenges, while sharply criticising the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government for its policies, which it claims have deepened hardship and insecurity across Nigeria.
In the statement, signed by Debo Ologunagba, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, the party congratulated Nigerians, particularly the Muslim Ummah, on the occasion, describing Eid-el Maulud as a reminder of the supremacy of Allah’s will in human affairs.
The PDP urged leaders to reflect on the teachings of the Holy Prophet and seek divine direction to steer the nation toward progress. “Eid-el Maulud presents us as a nation, particularly leaders, the opportunity to retrace our steps,” the statement read.

The PDP lambasted the APC-led administration under President Bola Tinubu for what it described as oppressive policies that have worsened economic hardship, fueled insecurity, and diminished the quality of life for Nigerians.
The party accused the government of ignoring the plight of citizens while allowing corruption and the “mindless pillaging” of national resources by APC members and their allies.
“It is heartrending that while millions of Nigerians cannot afford to celebrate an occasion as significant as Eid-el Maulud due to excruciating hardship, APC leaders are arrogantly luxuriating and displaying their extravagant lifestyle,” the statement noted.
The opposition party also criticised the APC for what it perceives as a push toward totalitarianism, urging the government to respect the sovereign will of Nigerians and embrace alternative opinions as a cornerstone of democracy.
The PDP warned the APC against taking citizens for granted, stating that its actions are “pushing a people to the wall and daring them to do their worst.”
Despite the challenges, the PDP called on Nigerians not to lose hope but to show love and solidarity while rallying with the party to “salvage the nation.”

The statement concluded with a call for prayers during the Eid-el Maulud festivities and extended warm wishes to all Nigerians.
As Nigerians commemorate Eid-el Maulud, the party’s call for reflection and resistance to authoritarianism underscores the ongoing political tensions in the country, setting the stage for continued debates about governance and accountability.
