The Deputy National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Okechukwu Osuoha, has called on Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to demonstrate loyalty to the party and recommit to peace and development as he resumes office following the end of the six-month emergency rule.
Osuoha made the remarks while addressing journalists on Tuesday, urging the governor to embrace accountability and reconciliation after the expiration of the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu in March 2025.
“He has to come back to office because the suspension was for six months, and there has been no extension. Therefore, he must return and assume his role as executive governor of Rivers State,” Osuoha stated.
He acknowledged ongoing debates over the constitutional legality of suspending an elected governor during a state of emergency, but maintained that with the emergency period concluded, Fubara is now obligated to resume his constitutional duties.
The legal adviser stressed that Fubara’s return should herald a new chapter of peace and stability in the oil-rich state. He called for improved relationships between the governor and other key institutions.
“Every Nigerian expects a cordial relationship between the executive and the legislative arms of Rivers State, between the governor and the House of Assembly,” he said.
Osuoha further encouraged the governor to reconcile with political stakeholders, including those who supported his rise to power.
“Let there also be a good relationship between him and his godfather—whoever made it possible for him to secure that position. There must be peace and unity in the state so that development can take place because Rivers has suffered a lot,” he said.
Emphasising party loyalty, Osuoha urged Fubara to actively participate in PDP affairs and remain committed to the party’s structure.
“He is still a member of the PDP and should participate fully in party affairs. Party is supreme. If you have any problem, the party will come to your rescue and support you,” he added.
Osuoha’s comments come amid ongoing political tension in Rivers State, with analysts watching closely to see how Fubara navigates his return and rebuilds relationships within both the state government and the PDP.
