The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed that its 2025 National Convention will proceed as planned this weekend, dismissing reports of postponement as false and politically motivated.
In a statement jointly issued by the National Working Committee (NWC) and the 2025 National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) on Wednesday, the party confirmed that the convention will take place from Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
According to the PDP, contrary to circulating claims, preparations are in full swing and delegates have already begun arriving in Ibadan ahead of the event.
“The 2025 National Convention of the PDP has not been postponed but will go on as scheduled,” the statement read. “We urge all party members and Nigerians in general to disregard misleading claims being peddled to the contrary by some individuals recruited by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in its failed attempt to stop the PDP National Convention.”
The party accused the APC of plotting to destabilise the opposition and advance a one-party agenda, a move it vowed would be “lawfully resisted.”
The NWC and NCOC assured members that all logistical and security arrangements had been finalised for what they described as a “successful and unifying” national gathering.
“The NCOC and the Party will continue to work assiduously round the clock to ensure a successful National Convention in Ibadan as scheduled,” the statement added.
Expressing gratitude to Nigerians for their continued support, the PDP extended a warm welcome to its delegates, leaders, and supporters who are already converging on Ibadan for the weekend event.
The statement was signed by Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP and Secretary of the Publicity and Communication Sub-Committee of the NCOC.
The convention, which is expected to address internal leadership issues and chart the party’s political direction ahead of future elections, comes amid mounting speculation about divisions within the PDP and attempts by rival political forces to undermine its cohesion.
