The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a 46-member National Elective Convention Zoning Committee at its national headquarters in Abuja.
The committee, tasked with strengthening the party ahead of its November 2025 convention, is chaired by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri.
The Vice Chairman is Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, and the Secretary is Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

According to a statement from Diri’s spokesman, Daniel Alabrah, the acting PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum, expressed his confidence in the committee’s ability to reposition the party.
He urged members to use their wisdom and experience to create a fair framework for a successful convention.
Damagum emphasised the need for the committee to begin its work immediately, as the party is on a tight schedule.
The Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, praised the selection of the committee members, highlighting their capacity to handle the important assignment.
He affirmed that the PDP governors are fully behind the National Working Committee’s efforts to prepare the party to “rescue Nigerians from bad governance.”
Mohammed reflected on the PDP’s past achievements, stating that the party’s democratic legacy would resonate with Nigerians who are seeking a credible alternative.
Fair and consultative
In his acceptance speech on behalf of the committee, Diri acknowledged the “huge responsibility” of the task.

He pledged that the committee’s work would be consultative and inclusive, ensuring that all stakeholders are involved in creating a “fair and just formula” for the party’s convention.
He thanked the party leadership for the trust placed in him and the other committee members.
