Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has praised the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdulrahman Mohammed, saying he has “rescued” the opposition party from what he described as an “Intensive Care Unit (ICU).”
Fayose, in a statement on Tuesday, commended Mohammed’s leadership, expressing optimism that the PDP would survive its recent internal crises and begin a process of healing under his stewardship.
His remarks followed a ruling by the Oyo State High Court, which granted permission for the PDP to proceed with its planned national convention.
The development came after the Abuja Federal High Court, presided over by Justice James Omotosho, had on 31 October 2025 halted the convention scheduled to take place in Ibadan, citing procedural lapses. However, Justice A.L. Akintola of the Oyo State High Court later overruled that decision, allowing the convention to go ahead.
Reacting to the court’s ruling, Fayose criticised those he accused of attempting to derail the party’s progress, saying their actions showed “desperation.”

“It appears that desperation has affected their sense,” he said. “If not, they wouldn’t go to a State High Court to obtain an order on a matter already decided by a Federal High Court.”
Fayose declared that the PDP was now in the hands of a capable leader, describing Mohammed as a stabilising force at a time when the party faced internal strife.
“Unfortunately for them, the PDP has been rescued from their hands and it is now in intensive care, being looked after by the new Acting National Chairman, Mohammed Abdulrahman,” Fayose stated.
He expressed confidence that the party, under Abdulrahman’s leadership, would recover from what he termed “the injuries it suffered from the vampires, which the Ibadan elements represent.”
The former governor’s comments highlight the deep divisions within the PDP, which has faced multiple legal and political challenges over leadership disputes and preparations for its forthcoming national convention.
