Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibarapaland have formally endorsed the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.
The endorsement was announced during a well-attended PDP Ibarapaland Stakeholders’ Zonal Meeting held in Igboora, headquarters of Ibarapa Central Local Government Area. The meeting, initially convened to discuss a proposed visit by Governor Seyi Makinde, evolved into a broader political strategy session focused on the future of the party in the state.

Party leaders, elders, and grassroots mobilisers at the gathering expressed strong confidence in Ogundoyin’s leadership qualities, loyalty to the PDP, and his role in ensuring legislative stability within the state. They urged him to formally declare his intention to run for governor, describing him as a credible and unifying figure capable of advancing the party’s fortunes.
Responding to the call, Ogundoyin pledged his readiness to join the race, stating that the endorsement reflects the collective will and aspirations of the people of Ibarapaland and Oyo State at large. He assured stakeholders of his commitment to inclusive governance and sustained development if elected.
The meeting drew a significant presence of political heavyweights and party stalwarts, including Hon. Anthony Adebayo Adepoju (Ibarapakan), State Commissioners Hon. Ademola Ojo and Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, as well as the PDP Chairman for Oyo South Senatorial District, Alhaji Kamoru Adeyemi. Also in attendance were the PDP chairmen from Ibarapa East, Ibarapa North, and Ibarapa Central local government areas.
Following the zonal meeting, Ogundoyin visited his constituency in Ibarapa East, where another stakeholders’ meeting reaffirmed support for his potential candidacy. Discussions at the meeting centred on strengthening grassroots mobilisation and consolidating party unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
The growing endorsements from within Ibarapaland signal increasing political momentum for the Speaker as he positions himself for the governorship race. Party leaders noted that his emergence reflects both loyalty to the PDP and strong grassroots backing, which they believe will be crucial in securing victory in the next electoral cycle.
