Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS) to boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and promote sustainable development.  

The governor spoke yesterday in Ado Ekiti at the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the new Revenue House, which will serve as EKIRS’ corporate headquarters.

Oyebanji emphasised the need for collaboration between EKIRS and all revenue-generating Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to eliminate revenue leakages. 

He urged MDAs to cease manual tax and revenue collection practices, which often result in fraud.

While commending EKIRS for increasing the state’s monthly IGR from ₦600 million to N1.8 billion in 2024, the Governor praised the agency’s chairman, Olaniran Olatona, and its staff for their exceptional performance, which earned them national recognition as one of Nigeria’s best-performing revenue agencies.

The governor assured EKIRS staff of his administration’s continued support, noting that their welfare remains a top priority. He promised to take strict action against MDAs that engage in fraudulent revenue practices, stating, 

Meanwhile, EKIRS Chairman, Olatona expressed gratitude to the Governor for providing a prime location for the new office complex, which he said would enhance tax administration, improve taxpayer experience, and attract partnerships with bodies like the Joint Tax Board.  

Olatona stressed that the project reflects the agency’s commitment to transparency and excellence, with all professionals involved in its construction sourced locally to showcase the state’s talent.  

Former EKIRS Chairman, Isola Akingbade, described the project as a landmark development and commended Oyebanji’s dedication to improving the welfare of Ekiti citizens.
