Osun State marked its 34th anniversary of creation today with a moving address from Governor Ademola Adeleke, who celebrated the state’s progress while urging citizens to unite in shaping a brighter future.
The commemoration paid tribute to the vision and sacrifices of the state’s founding fathers and mothers, who on 27 August 1991 fulfilled the aspiration of establishing Osun as a distinct entity within Nigeria.
Adeleke, in his message to the people, expressed pride and gratitude, reflecting on the state’s journey over the past three decades and reaffirming his commitment to its continued development.

“Today, we remember and honour those who championed the creation of Osun State. Their sacrifices remain the foundation upon which we stand,” he said.
Highlighting the state’s progress, he noted significant strides in education, culture, sports, innovation, and infrastructure, alongside efforts to expand opportunities for youth and strengthen governance systems.
Adeleke emphasised his administration’s commitment to deepening democratic values and promoting citizens’ welfare through transparent, accountable, and people-centred governance.
“We are building a strong, virile, and resilient democratic governance for delivering sustainable value to our citizens,” he affirmed, underscoring his dedication to good governance.
The governor called for unity and collective responsibility to realise “the Osun of our dreams, prosperous, peaceful, inclusive, and self-reliant.”
He urged all sectors of society, including the government, private sector, traditional rulers, religious leaders, artisans, farmers, entrepreneurs, and civil servants, to work together in upholding the state’s cherished Omoluabi values.
“Let us reject division, embrace unity, and always place Osun first,” he declared, emphasising the need for collaboration to overcome challenges and position Osun as a model of excellence.
The anniversary celebration featured events across the state, with citizens reflecting on Osun’s cultural heritage and economic potential.
Adeleke thanked residents for their support and contributions, urging them to continue the journey toward a prosperous future.
