Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who is also the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the upcoming governorship election, has pledged to launch more infrastructural projects, particularly in road construction, across Akure if re-elected.
The governor made this commitment during the flag-off of his local government campaign tour on Friday, which included a series of community and stakeholder engagements in Akure, the state capital.
Speaking to the traditional rulers from Akure South Local Government, Governor Aiyedatiwa praised the city’s peaceful nature and emphasized his administration’s commitment to enhancing its beauty to further solidify Akure’s standing as the capital of the state.
“Akure remains one of the most peaceful state capitals in Nigeria. If we want to drive positive development in Ondo State, it must begin here in Akure. We’ve been meeting your expectations, and we’re determined to do even more,” he said.
During his visit to the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II, the governor sought royal blessings and engaged with traditional leaders on key issues affecting the community.
Speaking on behalf of the monarchs, the Deji, along with Oba Luyi Rotimi, the Olujigba of Ijigba; Adekunle Ajanaku, the Olu of Okelisa; and Senior High Chief Segun Adedipe, the Elemo of Akure, stressed the importance of a peaceful election, improved street lighting, agro-allied support for farmers, and the development of rural roads.
The traditional rulers unanimously endorsed Governor Aiyedatiwa as the best candidate for the upcoming election, pledging their full support for his re-election bid.
In response to their requests, Governor Aiyedatiwa assured the monarchs that their concerns were already being addressed, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to sustainable development across the region.
He said: “Most of the requests have already been implemented, and others are well underway, We understand the importance of accessible roads for rural communities and the role of adequate lighting in enhancing security. That is why we are making sure no area is left behind in our development agenda.
“We cannot overemphasize the importance of sanitation in public spaces, especially in our markets where a large part of our economy thrives. We want our traders to operate in a clean, healthy environment, and that is why we are building public toilets in key markets across the state.”
