Former Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has acknowledged that Governor Monday Okpebholo has accomplished a significant milestone within his first 100 days in office—something his own administration failed to achieve.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, Shaibu noted that Okpebholo successfully secured Federal Government (FG) support for the state, a move he and former Governor Godwin Obaseki did not pursue during their tenure.
“One commendable step Governor Okpebholo has taken, which we didn’t, is reaching out to the Federal Government for assistance,” Shaibu stated.
“This support will ease the financial burden on the state and allow more resources to be directed toward development projects.”

He explained that while the Obaseki-led administration had good intentions, political interests eventually interfered with its plans.
Reflecting on his experience in government, Shaibu emphasised the need to support and pray for leaders, as their success or failure directly impacts the state.
“Every administration, including ours, started with the right intentions, but along the way, political factors came into play. That’s why I consistently urge people to support Okpebholo and also pray for him, so he doesn’t fall into the same challenges,” he added.
Shaibu and Obaseki, once political allies, became adversaries in the lead-up to the September 21, 2024, governorship election.
Shaibu eventually rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC), while Okpebholo, the party’s candidate, won the election as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
