Supporters of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, have pledged to resist any efforts to prevent him from contesting in the 2027 presidential election.
The Obidients made this declaration in response to comments by Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, who claimed Obi would not secure the ticket of any political party in 2027.
Speaking in an interview on Channels Television, Bwala asserted that Obi would only serve as Director-General of the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC). He also alleged that Obi lost 50% of his voter base in the 2023 election, while Tinubu would exceed his vote tally.
Reacting swiftly, Dr Chibuzor Obiesili, a member of the State Coordinating Council Collegiate team of the Obidients in Abia, described Bwala’s comments as suspicious and called on the presidency to clarify or face accountability.
“Is Bwala now telling Nigerians that the presidency determines who gets a party ticket in 2027?” Obiesili questioned.
He also dismissed Bwala’s claim that Obi lost half of his South East voters as “wishful thinking and empty political hallucination.”
The Obidients reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring Obi’s participation in the 2027 presidential race, warning against any attempts to undermine his ambition.
