Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have expressed confidence that Nigerians will vote out the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, citing worsening hardship and divisive governance under the current administration.
The governors made this assertion in a joint statement issued on Saturday after their meeting in Gusau, Zamfara State. The gathering brought together PDP leaders to discuss pressing national issues and the party’s strategy ahead of its forthcoming national convention.
According to the communiqué, the APC has “inflicted suffering on Nigerians” through what the governors described as poor governance, economic mismanagement, and policies that are deepening national divisions.
“Nigerians will throw out the APC in 2027,” the governors stated, describing the PDP as the most viable and prepared alternative for delivering competent leadership and restoring good governance in the country.
Despite recent defections, the governors insisted that the PDP remains strong, united, and well-positioned to reclaim power.
The forum also addressed concerns over growing insecurity, pointing to continued violence and killings in states such as Katsina, Plateau, Niger, and Benue. They urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to take urgent action to protect lives and property.
On recent by-elections, the PDP governors condemned what they called “militarisation of the polls,” along with widespread vote buying and electoral violence. They commended party supporters for remaining steadfast in the face of intimidation and electoral irregularities.
“We commend the resilience of our supporters and urge members to resist any attempt to derail the democratic process ahead of our national convention,” the statement read.
They further emphasised the need for unity within the PDP, calling on members to remain focused and committed to ensuring a smooth and credible convention process.
Present at the meeting were Governors Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), and Ademola Adeleke (Osun).
