Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has urged the Federal Government, FG, to strengthen institutions responsible for safeguarding citizens’ rights and freedoms.
In his Independence Day message posted on Facebook on Wednesday, Saraki stressed the importance of building an inclusive economy that benefits every Nigerian.
He noted that this should serve as the foundation upon which leaders position the country over the next 65 years.

The Kwara-born politician further stated that the task before citizens and patriots alike is to uphold what unites the nation, insisting that Nigeria’s enduring values lie in fairness and mutual respect.
He added that while the country was celebrating, it was important to rise again and rebuild the nation.
Saraki also urged the government to prioritise justice for all and ensure equal opportunities, noting that these were the values Nigeria had inherited.
“We know that we must tell ourselves the truth about the situation of our country, and we must believe in the strength we have as citizens. We have seen many times that when we gather together, we encourage ourselves, and we overcome any obstacle that we face. Today seems like a day we remember the hard work ahead of us, despite the hardships we face, our story as a country, Nigeria, is being written.
“Every generation people of this generation have a role to play in the development of our nation, So now we also have to contribute to building our nation through courage and truth and war that we can build a nation with anyone A citizen, no matter what race or gender he/she has his/her rights, and he/she must be justified and given rights as given to everyone”, he said.
He stated that Nigerians would not define the nation’s story by merely recounting the challenges they faced, but by how they confronted and overcame them.
He urged citizens to renew both individual and collective commitments to building a country where justice, opportunity, and dignity form the inheritance of every Nigerian.
Saraki added that while the journey requires honesty about present difficulties, it also demands faith in the people’s collective strength.
“We have seen, time and again, that when Nigerians come together with courage and conviction, we can overcome even the most daunting obstacles. Despite everything, at 65, our task as a people, as patriots, as Nigerians, therefore, is to deepen the values that hold us together. Values like fairness and respect for one another. It is to strengthen the institutions that safeguard our freedoms, and to create an economy that rewards diligence.

“These are the foundations upon which our next 65 years should be built. Today is a reminder that, despite our difficulties, our story as Nigerians is still being written. Every generation has its own specific part to play. And so we must play our part with courage, integrity, and faith by building a nation where every Nigerian, no matter their background, can find justice and opportunity. In the end, the greatness of Nigeria will not be told in the challenges we faced, but in how we overcame them together.”
