LAGOS — The Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday passed a resounding vote of confidence on its new Speaker, Rt. Hon. Moyosola Meranda, solidifying her leadership position amid growing support from both lawmakers and Assembly staff.
In a session marked by unity and enthusiasm, 36 out of 40 members of the Assembly formally endorsed Meranda to continue steering the affairs of the legislative chamber, expressing strong belief in her leadership capacity and vision.
The motion was moved on the floor of the House by Hon. Oladipo Ajomale, the lawmaker representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency II. While presenting the motion, Ajomale highlighted the Speaker’s election by the Assembly and lauded her as a leader with the competence and charisma to guide the House effectively at this critical juncture.
“We, the members of this honourable House, have elected Rt. Hon. Moyosola Meranda as our Speaker. We are confident that she is the perfect leader the House needs at this time, and we are proud to stand with her,” Ajomale declared, drawing resounding applause from the chamber.
The motion was promptly seconded by Hon. Aro Moshood, with 34 additional lawmakers enthusiastically supporting the motion on the floor. This overwhelming display of support culminated in the formal passage of a vote of confidence on Speaker Meranda.
Notably, beyond the lawmakers, staff members of the Lagos State House of Assembly also demonstrated strong solidarity with the Speaker. Many staff members were visibly present in the chamber during the proceedings, signalling their support for Meranda’s leadership and fostering a climate of institutional stability.
In her brief remarks following the endorsement, Speaker Moyosola Meranda expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of her colleagues and Assembly staff. She pledged to uphold the values of transparency, accountability, and effective legislative governance in the service of Lagosians.
“I am humbled by the trust reposed in me by my esteemed colleagues and the dedicated staff of this House. Together, we will continue to chart a course that prioritizes the development of Lagos State and the well-being of our people,” the Speaker said.
Following the adoption of the vote of confidence, the Assembly formally adjourned sitting until further notice. Sources within the House indicated that the adjournment will allow members to consult widely on key legislative priorities for the months ahead.
