The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a national security emergency as a “courageous and strategic” measure that demonstrates decisive leadership in tackling Nigeria’s lingering insecurity challenges.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC commended the President for simultaneously approving the recruitment of an additional 20,000 police personnel.
This latest approval raises the total number of new officers recruited under the present administration to 50,000, following an earlier batch of 30,000.
Mr Oladejo said the declaration and recruitment drive underscore President Tinubu’s firm commitment to comprehensive security sector reforms.
He particularly welcomed the Tinubu’s directive to the National Assembly to review existing legislation that could pave the way for willing states to establish their own police forces.
“The President’s actions signal a deliberate shift towards a more decentralised policing architecture, which will enhance rapid response and effectiveness in addressing security threats across the federation,” the statement read.
The party further noted that the measures reflect a renewed national security posture built on expanded operational capacity, improved intelligence sharing, and proactive engagement with emerging threats.
It expressed optimism that the reforms would strengthen law enforcement at federal, state, and community levels, ultimately fostering safer neighbourhoods and restoring public confidence in security institutions.
Lagos APC stressed that the emergency declaration and accompanying initiatives represent strategic, long-term thinking rather than short-term palliatives.
“These steps will not only bolster manpower but also modernise our security apparatus to meet contemporary challenges,” Mr Oladejo added.
Concluding its reaction, the Lagos State chapter reaffirmed its unflinching support for President Tinubu and pledged to mobilise grassroots backing for policies aimed at protecting lives and property throughout Nigeria.
