Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has called for more love, care and inclusivity for People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) in the state.
In a statement today, Rabiat Salman, Press Secretary of the Ministry of Youth ,said the governor emphasised that PLWDs deserve equal opportunities to thrive and achieve fulfilment in life.
The governor made the call during a mega rally in Ilorin, organised to commemorate the International Day of People Living With Disabilities .
The event with theme: “Walk Against Stigmatization of People Living With Disabilities,” was led by skit maker Yahya Olatunji, known as Baba Kamo.
The rally, which began at the Kwara State Stadium Complex and ended at the Government House, saw. massive participation from PLWDs, students under the aegis of the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS), among other bodies.
Participants displayed placards with inscriptions such as “Disability Does Not Mean Inability,” “Break the Stigma, Not the Spirit,” and “Empowerment Begins with Acceptance.”
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Sheu Ndanusa, Governor AbdulRazaq reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusivity for PLWDs
Our administration does not discriminate. PLWDs are treated equally and are part of our government. I encourage everyone to embrace and appreciate them. When you see them around you, show them love and care instead of discrimination,” he said.
Other officials, including the Commissioner for Environment, Nafisat Buge, and the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Bola Magaji, echoed similar sentiments.
Buge highlighted the administration’s dedication to ensuring PLWDs are included in policies and programmes, urging them to remain confident despite societal challenges.

“There is no difference between you and me except physical representation. Don’t let anyone intimidate or look down on you. You have the ability to excel and achieve greatness,” Buge remarked.
In his remarks, Magaji praised the achievements of PLWDs in sports, citing an example of a Paralympian who secured Nigeria’s first medal at the last Olympics.
He urged parents to provide care and support for their children with disabilities rather than hide them.
Baba Kamo, the convener of the event, explained that the rally was aimed tat combating stigma and promote acceptance of PLWDs.
He also announced the upcoming launch of his movie, “Moyomi”, which explores the challenges faced by PLWDs and advocates for their dignity and respect.
“We want society to see abilities, not disabilities. These individuals have dreams, visions, and purposes just like everyone else. Our goal is to stop stigma and change perceptions,” Baba Kamo said.
One of the participants, Abdulkadir Bilikis Abolore, expressed gratitude for the initiative, describing it as a step toward inclusion and empowerment.
