Mustapha Shu’aib, a prominent ally of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially resigned from the NNPP.
Shu’aib announced his decision in a statement in which he said he was seeking to explore a new political path and broaden his impact in public service. He explained that the move followed extensive consultations with political associates, community leaders and supporters across his constituency.
A former candidate for the Bida North Constituency seat in the Niger State House of Assembly, Shu’aib was the youngest contestant in the 2023 general elections, a factor that drew attention to his political ambition and rising profile within the party.
According to him, the decision to leave the NNPP was not taken lightly but was informed by a desire to reposition himself for greater service. He stressed that his resignation should not be interpreted as a withdrawal from politics.
Sources close to Shu’aib, speaking to TVC, also confirmed that he remains active in the political space and is considering his next steps carefully. They added that his exit from the NNPP is part of a broader plan to realign his political engagements rather than an indication of disengagement.
While his next political destination has not yet been disclosed, the development has sparked speculation about a possible defection to another major political party ahead of future electoral contests.
Shu’aib’s resignation adds to the ongoing political realignments across the country, particularly among younger politicians seeking platforms that align with their ambitions and policy priorities.
