The Nigerian ambassador to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has sharply criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a “professional party of jumpers” and urging its leadership to accept full responsibility for its deregistration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a strongly worded statement titled “INEC De-registration: ADC Professional Party Jumpers Have Only Themselves to Blame,” Omokri said the David Mark-led faction of the ADC had brought the crisis upon itself and should stop shifting blame onto others.

He was responding to a recent statement from the David Mark group rejecting INEC’s interpretation of the Court of Appeal ruling delivered on 12 March 2026. Omokri expressed surprise that the group had failed to offer its own understanding of the judgment.
“The David Mark group from the ADC clearly caused this disaster on their own,” he said. “If they chose to appeal the decision, the David Mark group should follow the Court of Appeal’s ruling, since they are supposed to obey the law.”
Omokri warned that attempts to stir public anger against INEC and undermine the electoral body were “a risky and desperate action” by the faction.
The development reflects broader trends in APC political updates across Nigeria.
He cautioned against “throwing the baby out with the bathwater,” noting that the ADC’s current difficulties were entirely predictable.
He argued that the party’s recent shift into the ADC had been motivated more by business interests than by any genuine commitment to democratic principles.
Rather than accusing INEC of bias or claiming it was being controlled by the All Progressives Congress (APC), the David Mark group should acknowledge that it had “bought a faulty product,” he added.
“Instead of blaming INEC or accusing the APC of controlling INEC through tele-guidance, the David Mark group from the ADC should understand that they bought a faulty product. They should either fix the problems with what they bought or find a different political party,” Omokri stated.
With less than ten months until the 2027 general elections, he suggested it would be extremely difficult for the group to register a new party from scratch in time.
