The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has rejected allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that figures in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise were being manipulated.
The ADC had recently raised concerns over what it described as irregularities in the online pre-registration process in Lagos and other states, suggesting possible foul play.
Responding on Monday in Lagos, the Head of Voter Education and Publicity for INEC in the state, Mr Taiwo Gbadegesin, dismissed the claims as “unfounded and inaccurate,” stressing that they were nothing more than a figment of the party’s imagination.
He explained that Lagos’s voter registration statistics were in line with historical patterns and reflected the state’s demographic realities.
“The Lagos registration figures are consistent with past CVR trends and reflect the state’s demographic realities: a large, youthful, and tech-savvy population,” Gbadegesin said.
He further recalled that during the last CVR exercise (2021–2022), Lagos State recorded the highest number of new registrations in the country. The state’s voter register, he noted, grew from 6,570,291 before the exercise to 7,060,195 afterwards.
According to him, the current CVR outcome aligns with this established trend and should not be misconstrued as manipulation.
Gbadegesin also attributed the impressive turnout to INEC’s effective deployment of resources and the sustained voter education campaigns rolled out across the state.
He stressed that INEC remained committed to transparency in carrying out its constitutional mandate, assuring political parties and stakeholders that the ongoing registration would be free, fair, and credible.
